I am Anya Sarang, President of the Andrei Rylkov Foundation for Health and Social Justice (ARF), and I need your help. ARF is the only organization in Moscow which offers people who use drugs clean needles, condoms, help accessing testing for HIV and hepatitis, and social support. Through our work, we help not only people who use drugs but all city residents by making our city safer and more humane. You can read about us here and here.
Such organizations, working to reduce drug related harms, operate in European capital cities and others throughout the world often with the support of municipal authorities. But the Moscow city government does not support us so we are starting a project with the support of the site GlobalGiving. Our project is called “mobile healthcare for 1000 people who use drugs in Moscow” and we hope to collect 60,000 USD to support the first mobile service for drug users in our city. For more than 6 months out of a year, Moscow is prone to snow and rain which makes work on the street very difficult. Last winter was so freezing we couldn’t ever perform the rapid tests as the buffer was freezing right away! The mobile unit (a minibus equipped with supplies) will enable us to offer uninterrupted service to our clients in a comfortable environment and also enable us to reach out to more people.
We need your help! Please help us by spreading this message and making a donation on our project’s page!
If you have any questions about harm reduction or the services provided by ARF please feel free to contact me – I’ll be glad to answer. Lets come together to help people so often rejected by society – they have few people they can count on besides you and us.
